-- Educational and Cultural deputy of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) said translating the Quran into different languages helps to foil the west’s anti-Islamic propaganda.
Mohammad Reza Dehshiri was speaking yesterday, March 8, at a ceremony marking the release of a new Spanish translation of the Noble Quran.
He reiterated the need for more attention to translation of the Quran into all languages in order for familiarizing the world with the true teachings of Islam and the Quran as there have always been propaganda campaigns against the religion.
Stressing that the views of the Islamic Republic of Iran are based on the Quran, Dehshiri said the ICRO is keen on promoting the Islamic culture and teachings in the world according to the Supreme Leader’s guidelines.
Also speaking the ceremony was Hojat-ol-Islam Asghar Saberi head of the Center for Coordination of Translations and Promotion of Islamic Teachings. He, too, reiterated the significance of Quran translation, saying that so far the Bible has been rendered into over 2500 languages while there are only 150 languages into which the Quran has been translated.
The new Spanish translation of the Quran is the work of Jafar Gonzales. Gonzales was born into a Marxist family in 1950 in the Spanish capital, Madrid. Following years of contemplation and seeking the truth, he embraced the enlightening religion of Islam in 1983. A year later, he married a Spanish Muslim woman, also a convert.
In addition to the holy Quran, Gonzales has translated a number of Islamic texts including the interpretation of Sura Al-Hamd, the 40 Hadiths, Velayat-e Faqih (Rule of the Jurisprudent) and Adab al-Salat (Disciplines of Prayer).
According to Mohsen Rabbani director of Andisheh Sharq Institute, 15000 copies of Gonzales’s translation of the Quran have been published and there are plans to publish 100, 000 more copies to be presented in book fairs in countries like Bolivia, Venezuela, Argentina, Cuba, and Colombia.
