Ala Al-Rahman Comprehensive Ijtihadi Exegesis
-- The Ala Al-Rahman Exegesis of the Holy Quran is a comprehensive Ijtihadi interpretation. Hojat-ol-Islam Ebrahim Yaqubian, an instructor at Mashhad Seminary School, said while many believe the Ala Al-Rahman to be a social exegesis, it just has references to social issues.
He referred to Al-Mizan and Al-Minar Quran exegeses as other examples of a comprehensive Ijtihadi interpretation, one which covers many issues related to human society.
Noting that Allameh Balaghi studied with great scholars like Sheikh Muhammad Taha Najaf, Reza Hamedani, Akhund Khorasani, and Seyyed Muhammad Hindi, Hojat-ol-Islam Yaqubian said that the Allameh started writing the Ala Al-Rahman late in his life after he had written numerous books in theology and Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).
“Al-Rihlat-ul-Madrasiya” a critique of Jewish and Christian beliefs, “Al-Huda Ila Din-ul-Mustafa” a response to Jewish and Christian’s questions and allegations against Islam, “Nasayih-ul-Huda” a critique of Babism and Baha’ism, and “Al-Masabih” a critique of the Qadiyaniya cult were among the books by Allameh Balaghi before he embarked on writing the Ala Al-Rahman, he noted.
According to Mr. Yaqubian, the late Allameh studied over 200 books for writing the Ala Al-Rahman. “In the preface to the exegesis, Allameh Balaghi cites Quranic miracles and talks about such questions as why is a miracle considered to be proof of prophethood?, and from what aspects is the Quran a miracle?
